Exploring the Ocean

With I am Water and the 2Blossom Foundation

In February, a group of excited Grade 7 learners from Lorraine NGK Primary School were treated to an unforgettable experience – a day at Muizenberg beach with the I Am Water Ocean Conservation Foundation, sponsored by the 2Blossom Foundation.

This special outing formed part of a meaningful collaboration between the 2Blossom Foundation and the I Am Water Ocean Conservation, an organisation dedicated to ocean conservation through education. Their mission is to connect young people with the natural world, helping them understand that we are deeply dependent on the health of our oceans, and that we all have a role to play in protecting our planet.

The learners explored the rocky shores in search of sea creatures, engaged in mindfulness exercises, and attended an interactive presentation on ocean conservation. The highlight for many was snorkelling in the tidal pools, an experience that brought the reality of ocean biodiversity to life.

Adding to the joy of the outing, each learner received a beach towel gifted by the 2Blossom Foundation, thanks to the founder and director Janneke Rutten and her family. Visiting from the Netherlands, the Rutten family joined the children on the outing, creating a special moment of connection between international supporters and local learners.

This outing was more than just a day at the beach—it was a powerful learning opportunity. Through direct interaction with nature, the learners came away with a deeper appreciation for the ocean and a renewed sense of responsibility for the environment.

The Du Toitskloof Fairtrade Initiative is proud to celebrate partnerships like this one, which not only enrich young minds but also align with our values of sustainability, empowerment, and global community.
