Our Fairtrade Daycare Centres

The first of several Du Toitskloof Fairtrade Initiatives in 2005 was creating a safe environment for children to grow and learn whilst their parents worked.

Today, two daycare centres, with aftercare and transport to the centres, take care of 155 children up to six years old. Twenty-seven women from the farms have been trained as educators and receive ongoing training in early childhood development. The daycare centres are fully operational from Monday to Friday. Children receive two nourishing meals a day.

The daycare centres are also accessible to children who are not Fairtrade dependents; such as children from surrounding farms and nearby communities.

Our young children at the daycare centres are also visited by a kinder kineticist once a week. The kinder kineticist focuses on developing the children’s motor skills. Motor skills are crucial for healthy development and school readiness.
