Our Fairhills Clinic

Our Fairhills Clinic is a fundamental part of the foundation of our Du Toitskloof Fairtrade Initiative. The clinic existed out of the need to provide our Fairtrade employees with basic healthcare that is also easily accessible.

Situated close to a multiple of our Fairtrade producers, farm workers, and their families can visit the clinic with ease during the week. As many families pass the clinic on their way to school or work they can simply pop in for a quick checkup or question. As the Fairhills clinic offers its services exclusively to our Fairtrade dependents, it means that the clinic is less crowded and more efficient.

The clinic also provides basic health checkups as required by the Fairtrade Foundation, especially with regard to health and safety compliance for drivers and spray operators. This means that our producers don't have to struggle with a public and crowded clinic in town. The clinic provides the producers with ease of mind, knowing that their employees' health is looked after and that they don't have to struggle with transport in and out of town.

For our farms situated further from the clinic, we also have a mobile clinic. Our registered nurse can use the mobile clinic to travel from farm to farm, making sure that all our members are taken care of. The mobile clinic is especially needed when we have members who are bedridden or too ill to leave the house. This way, unwell persons don't have to travel all the way to the clinic, but the clinic can come to them.

Establishing a clinic, moreover, a clinic in a rural setting comes with various challenges. However, when you are making a difference in the lives of not just one individual, but a whole community, it all becomes worth it.
