Angling Club for a Brighter Future

Our Angling Club is an invaluable part of the Du Toitskloof Fairtrade Initiative. Through participation in the Angling Club’s activities, we are offering our community members an opportunity to grow, learn, and build strong bonds.

The DTK Fairtrade Initiative’s Angling Club was established in 2016. The club existed out of the need to provide the community with a wholesome weekend activity, keeping both young and old from the dire drug and alcohol issues facing our rural communities. This club is a space where members can relax and socialise away from the dangers of their immediate context. As such, individuals can build themselves up, create a positive outlook on their future, and in turn, be part of the development of their community.

In 2022, the Angling Club consisted of 21 members, hosting individuals from the ages of 11- to 64-year-olds. Thus, making this a great mentoring programme for our youngsters. The community, as a whole, gets to reconnect and bond, as the older members guide and teach the young children.

Our Angling Club is working towards finding sponsors for their club. Currently, our older members share their fishing rods with the children, as not all members (especially the children) can afford to buy their own angling gear. They are also looking out for sponsors for clothes so that they can participate in Angling activities and competitions in their very own professional sports attire.

It is such a proud moment when you realise that there are people out there, working hard for their communities, despite the challenges it brings to lead such an endeavour. Thank you to our amazing committee for all your hard work, and the hope you instill in our community.
